Description:

Typically reporting to a department director, plans, assigns, and manages the activities and operations of a water/utilities division or section, including potable water production, transmission and distribution, storm water pumping and conveyance systems, and equipment maintenance; organizes and supervises the work of staff involved in the operation, maintenance, installation, replacement, and repair of a variety of water collection, transmission, and pumping systems; coordinates assigned activities with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies. May oversee wastewater collection and transmission activities.

Guide:

• Education equivalent to a Bachelor's degree with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.
• Requires four to five years of operational experience related to water systems and a State of California Grade IV Water Distribution Certificate and Grade III Water Treatment Certificate.

Exclusion:

• Water or Wastewater Crew Leaders.
• Department Head.
• Utility supervisors without managerial and policy making responsibilities.
