Description:

Under general supervision, reviews and verifies payroll actions, personnel actions, and benefits change forms; enters data to maintain and update the payroll master file; prepares and issues regular payroll; maintains accounting records relative to leave accrual, benefit deductions, and tax withholdings; coordinates timekeeping activities. This is a journey-level position that performs data entry, proofreading, verification, and report preparation duties.

Guide:

• Education equivalent to high school diploma, supplemented by college level coursework or technical certification in accounting, bookkeeping or a related field, and two to three years of payroll, accounting, or bookkeeping experience records.

Exclusion:

• Employees with responsibility for payroll as incidental activities to other job functions, such as department timekeepers, accounting technicians, and administrative secretaries.
• Entry-level classifications responsible for administration of agency-wide payroll functions.
• Accountants.
