Description:

Under general supervision, patrols beach and ocean areas from an assigned tower, emergency rescue vehicle, or patrol vessel; plans and responds to aquatic and other emergencies and rescues; prevents marine accidents; coordinates and supervises the work of part-time and recurrent beach operations and rescue support personnel; conducts training and participates in patrol and rescue operations; enforces public safety laws, codes, and regulations. Positions may be given PC832 powers of arrest authority.

Guide:

• Two years of lifeguard, instructional and water safety experience.
• High school graduation. USLA Lifeguard, SCUBA, and EMT certification.

Exclusion:

• Part-time and seasonal Lifeguards and Boat Operators and those positions with lesser certification.
• Area support supervisors with larger administrative and training responsibilities.
