Description:

Under immediate supervision, assists classroom instructor in the preparation and delivery of instructional

materials to school age special education students in K-12 or pre-school settings based on daily lesson

plan. Assists in the planning and guidance of student activities such as games, sports, music, arts

and crafts, and personal hygiene and safety. Tutors students individually and in small groups and

monitors behaviour in the classroom, facilities, playgrounds, on school buses, and during field trips. Keeps

attendance records. May assist teachers in the administration and scoring of tests and exams.

Guide:

• Some prior education, training, or experience working with students having special educational needs, including tutoring assignments.
• Can include college students working on education internship credit as part of college education major, other coursework, or pre-school program.

Exclusion:

• Playground Supervisors, Crossing Guards, Office Assistants and employees performing other types of non-instructional assistant duties.
