Description:
Under general supervision, conducts analysis of criminal cases; analyzes crime scene recognition, documentation, and evidence; examines and evaluates evidence for conflicting interpretations; researches related crime history, criminal justice databases, and forensic evidence and works with departmental personnel and law enforcement agencies to investigate leads. Interviews victims, witnesses, and suspects and conducts stakeouts and follow-up observation and analysis. Prepares detailed case investigative reports for prosecutors and identifies, apprehends, and works with the courts to prosecute perpetrators and testifies as needed. May assist with civil crime investigation; and performs related duties as assigned.
Guide:
Requires two to three years of police crime scene and investigative work, or equivalent combination of training and experience. Equivalent to A.A. or A.S. degree in Criminal Justice and training or certification through P.O.S.T.
