Description:

Performs a variety of technical duties related to Fire Code interpretation and enforcement; inspection and testing of extinguishing systems; commercial/i n dustrial fire alarm and fire protection review and analysis; checks/reviews plans for compliance with applicable fire codes; issuance of citations and notices of code violations; may assist in the investigation of fires for purposes of determining causation. Provides technical and administrative support to the Fire Prevention Bureau by preparing reports, maintaining statistical data and records. May conduct community and school fire education and prevention programs.

Guide:

• This is a non-sworn, journey-level position.
• Usually requires completion of college-level coursework in Fire Protection Technology, Fire Science, or related field.
• Requires previous experience in the areas of fire prevention, inspection, investigation, and public contact/presentation.

Exclusion:

• Hazardous Materials Coordinator/Specialist.
• Not a department or division head. May report to Fire Marshal, Battalion Chief or Fire Chief.
• Full-time arson investigation, or positions whose primary duty is arson investigation.
